George Washinton
August 26, 2010
What a crazy & wild journey this sculptor has been on the past couple of years. I’m grateful that a lot of it is behind me now and that the creative juices are flowing again and the sculpture gods are smiling on me! I’ve got lots of projects in the works but first and foremost is this project-the father of our country George Washington. This is a project coming to completion that I’ve researched and planned on for several years. A couple of years ago I read His Excellency by Joseph Ellis and then took a trip to the Smithsonian. I wrote Joseph J. Ellis how he could best envision Washington on a bench in military garb or Mount Vernon attire, but never heard from him.So that’s why I’m doing both – I can totally envision both!! I’m going to create two life-size versions of George- this one in his military outfit and another more relaxed version of him on a bench leaning back more, arms resting on the back of the bench and in his country plantation work shirt. A hand telescope beside him as he checks out his beloved Mount Vernon the place he always longed to be.
