Bronze statues of birds
I really enjoy sculpting most of my bird subjects in pairs, not only to represent the duality, but it’s also fun to make a statement about harmony, rhythm and congruency. Birds to me just seem to be natural in pairs. I love the fact that a few species of birds mate for life.
I sculpted ‘Mates’ as a single bird in a workshop I took with Sandy Scott, one of the world’s foremost bird sculptors, and after bringing it home it begged me to add its mate. I did so and figured it quite apropos to entitle two Australian Molukan Cockatoos, ‘Mates”
